Dr. Lindsey N. Chappell is an associate professor of English at Georgia Southern University specializing in nineteenth-century British literature. She is the author of Temporal Forms and the Nineteenth-Century Mediterranean: Writing British Heritage in Ancient Lands (Cambridge University Press, 2024) and has published articles in Victorian Literature and Culture, ELH, SEL, Literature Compass, Victorian Review, the Cambridge History of Victorian Women’s Writing, and elsewhere. Her work has been supported by grants from numerous organizations, including the Council for European Studies and the Armstrong Browning Library. Her current research considers the humanizing potential of frivolity in nineteenth-century sports, fashion, and landscape aesthetics, where often-marginalized individuals used their bodies to assert their autonomy against oppression.
