Clara Henssen is a German writer. She is the author of down (Launenweber, 2018). Her second novel, supported by the Stiftung Zurückgeben scholarship, is forthcoming from Droschl Verlag in spring 2027. She studied literature, history and psychoanalysis at Humboldt University of Berlin and the universities of Oxford and London, and has worked as an acquisitions editor for fiction and non-fiction in German publishing. She currently teaches Creative Writing at Stanford University’s Montag Center for Overseas Studies. Her writing and teaching explore the relationship between autobiography and fiction, with a particular interest in history and the unconscious.
